What Is a Haptic Coin?

A haptic coin is a compact, usually coin- or disc-shaped EDC fidget designed around repeated tactile interaction.

Depending on the design, the interaction may involve clicking, rotating, sliding, ratcheting, snapping or other small repeated movements.

“Haptic” describes the tactile experience rather than one specific internal mechanism. A haptic coin can therefore be magnetic, mechanical, ratchet-based or hybrid.

Ratchet-like feedback does not automatically mean a true mechanical ratchet.

Magnetic or other indexed systems can create a stepped, ratchet-like sensation without using physical ratchet teeth and a pawl. Classification should follow the actual mechanism rather than the feel alone.

ALSO NOTE

A mechanical haptic coin can still contain magnets.

Magnets used for retention, assembly or secondary functions do not automatically make the primary feedback mechanism magnetic.
